RPT Announce Commitment to Grow the Base of British Tennis
The RPT was founded in Spain in 1990 and has now trained over 10,000 coaches worldwide. The success of Spanish Tennis over this period of time is unparalleled. Indeed, 18 of Spain’s top 20 players are trained by RPT coaches and the new Davis Cup Captain Emilio Sanchez-Vicario is himself RPT certified. With this background and this success it is not surprising that the RPT is the fastest growing coaching organization in the world today. It is on the basis of this success that the teaching methods and systems of the RPT in the UK & ROI are based.
The RPT in the UK & ROI have declared their intention, using this experience and expertise, to introduce 100,000 new players into the game in 2008. Over the past 10-12 years the tennis playing population has dropped from 6 million to around 3 million, which obviously has a huge impact on the tennis industry and reduces the chances of producing that elusive British Champion. The RPT have developed a player recruitment strategy, designed to introduce children to the sport of tennis at grass roots level, and have taken the decision to retain the services of Aztec Marketing Solutions in order to achieve this key objective via a defined relationship marketing strategy. Aztec have been tasked with the recruitment of a number of select, high profile promotional campaigns to promote tennis to children, offering them the chance to receive a Free Trial Tennis Lesson, hosted by one of the RPT coaches nationwide.
Adrian Rattenbury, Director of the RPT says: “Although competition is healthy, to focus so much on it and forget the fundamental need to encourage more kids into the game at grass roots level, can only lead to long term failure for the country to produce a consistent flow of future champions in the sport . We need to get more kids playing the game to increase the levels of coaching and to ultimately produce better young players, which in turn will provide the necessary infrastructure to develop future world class players. Far too much emphasis is placed on producing the one off world class player and not enough on enabling more and more people to enjoy the lifelong sport at their own level.”
David Armstrong, MD of Aztec Marketing stated: “The RPT have given us an excellent opportunity to repeat the success of Nestle’s “Kids Go Free” promotion, which gave children of all ages the chance to receive a free trial sports lesson, re-inforcing the need to ensure that our children are given the opportunity to lead a balanced and healthy active lifestyle. Tennis is one of the best sports to develop this strategy and we look forward to working closely with the RPT to develop an effective series of promotional campaigns with companies eager to endorse this vital lifestyle commitment.”
